India, as we all know, is called the ‘Land of Spices’. And Indians justify this title by incorporating all of these amazing herbs and spices in their cuisine.

That’s why we love the Indian food so much. Every dish has its own unique and distinct flavor. India, being the land of diversity, has diversity in flavors, and it varies from city to city.

Having so much variety of food to savor, there’s no doubt that every time you hear about a new Indian dish that you haven’t tried before, it gets you excited.

Now, since there is such a huge range of cuisines we need to cover within the Indian cuisine, let’s categorize them and learn more about some of the best food available in this beautiful country.

North Indian Cuisine

This famous Indian cuisine consists of some of the most loved dishes around the world. With amazing dishes like Rajma, Palak Paneer, Dal Makhani, Samosa and Lassi being quite famous around the world.

There’s a good chance that most people who like Indian food must be familiar with these dishes. But North Indian cuisine doesn’t end there.

There are many more amazing flavors from this part of the country that people would love.

Dishes like Vegetable Korma, Chole Bhature, Dahi Bhalla, Baigan Bharta, Litti Chokha, Kashmiri Dum Aloo, etc. are also very tasty and you should give them a try.

Bengali Cuisine

Bengalis are famous for their sweet dishes. Gulab Jamun, Kala Jamun, Rasgula, Kalakand and Cham Cham are just some of the most famous Bengali sweet dishes that we know of.

But Bengal is more than just about their sweet people and sweet dishes. Being close to the coastal region, the state thrives on coconut-based dishes and has a lot to offer in the savory and spicy side of flavors.

Jhal Muri, Begun Bhaja, Alu Posto, Shukto, Kanchkolar Kofta, Sondesh and Misti Doi are some really amazing dishes that deserve to be mentioned here. You should give them a try and open your world to a new variety of flavors.

South Indian Cuisine

Just like West Bengal, most states in South India are very close to the coastal region. Hence, you’d find a lot of dishes that are loaded with coconut from this part of the country. Traditionally, South Indian cuisine is known to be very light and healthy.

Of course, every state has its own distinct flavors that make them unique. Some of the most famous dishes from South India include Idli, Medu Vada, Dosa, Appam, Sambhar, Rasam, Upma and Vegetable Biryani.

Goan Cuisine

Being the state of beaches, Goa is the ultimate vacation spot for every Indian. The state is filled with old buildings and monuments that date back to pre-freedom.

Since the state is influenced by Christian and Portuguese colonies, this is one place you’d find an amazing variety of sea food, bread, and more. You should also try Bebinca and Bolinhas which are some amazing and authentic Goan sweet dishes.

Maharashtrian Cuisine

This state is known for its amazing variety of spices and spice mixes that turn into mouth-watering flavors in their traditional dishes.

Pav Bhaji and Vada Pav are some of the most famous street food dishes in India and around the world, and they come from Maharashtra. Besides them, you should also try Vegetable Kolhapuri, Kanda Poha, Sabudana Khichdi, Zunka Bhakri, Bharleli Vangi, Puran Poli, Misal Pav, Aamti and Modak, to name a few. Gujarati Cuisine

Traditionally, Gujarati cuisine is known to be more towards the sweeter side of Indian cuisine. With dishes like Batata Poha, Khandvi, Undhiyu, Shrikhand and Kadhi, you can understand why.

But this state also has some amazing variety of flavors to offer with dishes like Fafda, Patra, Dal Dhokli, Thepla, Sev Tamatar Nu Shak, Gatta Nu Shak, Khichdi, Gathiya, Dabeli and Basundi, just to name a few.

Gujarati cuisine, like Punjabi cuisine, is quite famous in the country and around the world and everyone who has had it loves it.
